About Entrepreneurs: SXSW Show Report, Part 1

About.com   Entrepreneurs
In the Spotlight | More Topics |
  from Scott Allen
I'm not a big conference-goer. Oh, don't get me wrong -- I love them. But without a travel budget funded by either a company or some investors, I just don't attend very many except ones that I'm speaking at. One notable exception every year is the SXSW (South by Southwest) Interactive Festival, which is held here in my home town of Austin, plus I get a press pass! Anyway, it's a great chance to see what's new and hot on the web. Several companies launched at the event, plus there were some excellent panels on entrepreneurship. This week features a few of the highlights. Next week I'll dig deeper into some of the new companies and their stories.

A mix of venture capitalists, bootstrappers and venture-funded entrepreneurs offer their perspectives on getting your product to market, building your team, deciding on the timing and amount of funding, and more.

2008 SXSW Interactive Awards Highlight Best New Web Sites
The 2008 SXSW Web Awards honor web sites that either launched or were completely redesigned during 2007. Now some of these sites are relevant for entrepreneurs, while others aren't. But the reason this should be of interest to all entrepreneurs is that it shows you a) what's hot in web design right now and b) what new web-based business ideas are working.

10 Entrepreneurs and Guy Kawasaki in an Elevator
We all know that you're supposed to be able to pitch your idea to an investor during an elevator ride, right? But what happens when ten entrepreneurs end up in an elevator with Guy Kawasaki at the same time at SXSW?

About Today: How to Please Picky Eaters

About.com   Today
In the Spotlight | More Topics |
  from Jen Hubley
I was kind of a picky eater as a kid. My Mom still likes to tell the story of how I spent a year eating nothing but hot dogs, peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, and Spaghetti-Os. Actually, this is probably why I'm so short as an adult. If you are what you eat, I am 95% percent white bread and sweetener.
