About Auto Repair: Next Level Juice: Direct Injection

About.com   Auto Repair

  from Matthew Wright
A big part of being a successful mechanic is keeping up with technical innovation and progress. Direct injection technology is being put into production more and more often. Thanks to a lack of Right to Repair laws on the books, we'll have to wait until the carmakers are ready to pass on the repair manuals, but knowledge is power.

Also new to the site, a comprehensive guide to spark plug firing orders to have on hand for reference, and to get you out of a rough-running, backfiring fix if you put your wires on in the wrong order.

About Environmental Issues: Sunny Side of the Street: Solar Power from Roads?

About.com   Environmental Issues
In the Spotlight | More Topics |
  from Larry West
One of the most interesting ideas I've heard lately is the notion of using road surfaces to generate solar power that would not only keep highways brightly lit and ice free, but also could be stored to heat and cool homes and office buildings, power factories, etc. The roads are already in place, and the technology to transform them into a network of solar collectors is being tested under actual, um, road conditions. Check it out by clicking on the first article title below--and have a good week.

Can Highways Be Used to Generate Solar Power?
Using road surfaces to generate clean solar power is an innovative idea being explored in both Europe and the United States. Experts believe that turning highways into solar collectors as well as transportation corridors could generate enough electricity to meet the energy needs of the entire world.

Global Warming Already Leads to 150,000 Deaths Annually
Along with posing serious future threats to human health, global warming currently contributes to more than 150,000 deaths and 5 million illnesses every year, according to the World Health Organization and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. And those numbers could double by 2030 as global warming accelerates the spread of infectious diseases, increases malnutrition, and accounts for more heat waves and floods.
